South African mountain biker Greg Minnaar is undoubtedly the world’s most successful male downhill rider in the world, so you may be surprised to hear he is riding day 2 of the KAP sani2c today, on an e-bike.
The KAP sani2c got off to an exciting start with unexpected cool weather and muddy conditions. It was a Stage 1 win for the DSV Pro Cycling pair Arno du Toit and Gert Heyns in a time of 03:01:07, and dormakaba’s Amy McDougall and Robyn de Groot were first in the women’s race with 03:26:22.
Brad and Darryn Binder, South Africa’s motorcycle racing sensations, recently arrived home after a successful MotoGP and Moto3 season respectively. The Krugersdorp brothers are heading to KwaZulu Natal this week to take part in the KAP sani2c 3-day mountain bike stage race from Underberg to Scottburgh.
The world’s largest three-day mountain bike stage race, the KAP sani2c, is set to be the highlight of a COVID-19 stricken 2020 race calendar, as South Africa’s best marathon mountain bikers battle it out for the title. The tough 265kms of racing between Underberg and Scottburgh in KwaZulu-Natal takes place next week from 3-5 December, on a smaller scale to comply with COVID-19 regulations.
