Absolute Motion is a national coaching business with coaches across South Africa and have been part of the lives of some of the very best mountain bikers in South Africa since 2000. People like James Reid, Candice Neethling, Julian Jessop, Alan Hatherly, Bianca Haw and Frankie du Toit and many more have been, and still are, part of their coaching family.

For the 2018 edition of KAP sani2c we wanted to add real value to your preparation and to this affect the Absolute Motion coaching team will provide you with a very comprehensive coaching solution. The coaches at Absolute Motion are excited to go on this journey with you to help you make 2018 KAP sani2c your best year ever.

Absolute Motion could have sent you some spreadsheets with training ideas, but they decided that they want to really give you the most professional service they possibly can, and have therefore decided to make you completely part of their coaching offering… And at no charge to you.

The Absolute Motion Coaching Solution:

• They will make use of the best coaching software in the world, Training Peaks, to guide and manage your training and activities and you can register  on their Training Peaks profile after you have completed the registration process here: https://www.absolutemotion.co.za/sani2c-coaching/
• Your training will be individually managed. Yes, no one-size-fits-all program for people taking part in the KAP sani2c.
• Absolute Motion has allocated a team of coaches to look after you up to KAP sani2c and a coach will be introduced to you as soon as you have completed the registration process.
• Bianca Haw will also be part of the team to assist you in making KAP sani2c 2018 very special … after all, she has all the inside information.

Dear 2018 sani2c’er

Thank you once again for entering KAP sani2c 2018. Everyone in sani country is passionate about our event and we all appreciate how valuable you are to us. Thank you for your continued commitment to sani.

I am very fortunate to have a very supportive family (and now their partners too), who share my enthusiasm for mountain biking. Over the years sani2c has become very much part of their DNA, in fact they have become so involved in the event that I am concerned that, I too may face impeachment!

I am proud to introduce you to them in this newsletter. Together we spend many hours debating new ideas around our event, mostly focusing on the route. We plan our changes and improvements to excite and motivate you in the hope that you will work harder on your health and fitness. As always KAP sani2c is not just about the 3 days of riding you will spend with others between the Drakensberg and the East Coast of KZN. It is also about us inspiring you, you inspiring those around you, and those inspiring those around them. In some indirect way sani2c aims to inspire thousands of people from all walks of life to lead a healthy, more positive lifestyle.

Together we will use some of our personal experiences gained to bring about big and small changes that we are sure will make a big difference to your KAP sani2c. Small things like….a switch back option for Iconic Climb, (no… the Iconic switchbacks won’t entitle you to the sticker) and big things like…..Some new bridges…and a new finish venue for the last day!!!! (Yes! At last we won the battle of Scottburgh with Mother Mandy... We know she dictated to us for years but we have not asked her to resign gracefully, not just yet! ) Don’t panic, we not moving from Scottburgh just away from the beach venue.

Our team is already working closely with all our communities to see how they can too add that small bit of value.

The story behind sani2c

It all started in 2005 to raise funds for a small country school, Lynford.

The idea of sani2c was primarily raised with Lynford School in mind. Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s there were under 100 children at the school, three of which were Farmer Glen’s. He sat on the board as head of fundraising and it was here where the sani2c idea was sparked. Glen decided to start a mountain biking stage race, following a model similar to the Imana Wild Ride which he co-started with his best mate Steve Stamp back in 2000. Today, the Imana Wild Ride is the oldest stage race in the country and has built 38 classrooms along the Wild Coast.

Now, 14 years later, sani2c supports 23 organisations including local schools, charities and environmental groups. In 2017, R9.4million was paid to beneficiaries in the area and the communities remain the core of the event. In the newsletters leading you up to sani2c, we will introduce some of our beneficiaries whom you will come across during your three amazing days with us.

A message from the Lynford Headmaster:

Lynford and KAPsani2c – Partners in growing the future of our country

Lynford School and KAP sani2c have a long and closely entwined history, with the mountain bike event started to raise funds for the school. Farmer Glen, at the time a parent at Lynford, was charged with raising funds in order to ensure that the school was able to provide a world class education while, at the same time, remaining affordable to the greater Ixopo Community. As a result of his vision and tireless parent support, Lynford has been able to achieve these goals. The sustainability of Lynford is of critical importance to our community as it enables people to live and work in the area knowing they have excellent and affordable education for their children. Without the annual support of sani2c Lynford would be a very different place.

The funds raised during KAP sani2c are now primarily earmarked for the following purposes:

• The development of a meaningful Lynford Trust Fund which enables us to provide 25% of our student body with considerable financial support. This partnership with sani2c has afforded previously disadvantaged children the opportunity to attend our school and enjoy the standards synonymous with Independent Education.
• To achieve our aim of developing Lynford as a centre of educational excellence. We have introduced an iPad programme where we are able to provide iPads to our Grade 7 class at no cost to the parents.
• A large portion of the funds are allocated to various Capital building projects in our school. We are currently in the process of building a new school hall, which is by far the largest undertaking in our school’s history.
• This funding has also helped to ensure that we are able to attract and keep a team of highly qualified, experienced and motivated staff – the most important asset in the education of our children

We remain tremendously appreciative of our partnership with Farmer Glen and his team, as well as of the riders who continuously support our school. There is no doubt that our continued success is dependent on the continued success of the KAP sani2c event.
